Jasyn Lucas Northern Lights paintings

March 16th, 2012 No comments

Over the last week there have been some great photos of the Northern Lights, due to the solar activity. By coincidence at About Canada we have received another delivery of Northern light paintings by First Nation artist Jasyn Lucas.

I think my favourite must be Illusion

It is similar to one that came in, and sold immediately a few weeks ago. It makes me imagine lying in a clearing watching the Northern Lights above me.

Let me know if you like it and check out the others at Original paintings

Easier online shopping and reviews

March 9th, 2012 No comments

The Blow Out Sale was very successful. However we had a number of people concerned whether it was a sign that we were closing. We are not. We are now in our seventh year and still growing the business.

We are now expecting the new stock and new lines, that we found at this years By Hand trade shows, to refresh the store. I will tell you about them as they come in.

One thing we are doing is updating the website. The home page now has links to the 9 most popular categories to make it easier to find what you want. Have a browse and let us know what you think.

The other thing that I hope you find useful is the review facility in each of the product pages. What did you buy, what did you think of it?. Let us know.

You can now earn and redeem loyalty points online. The fact that you are getting this email means that you have an About Canada account. If you don’t know your password then just put in your email address and click on the password reminder link. Your account allows you to set up wish lists, check your loyalty point status.

Get that itch, relief by Sue Coleman

March 2nd, 2012 No comments

Last week, on Pinterest I pinned a photo from the local paper.

I realised afterward how like an image from West Coast artist Sue Coleman it is. The title of Sue’s piece is Relief, which I think, says it all.

Sue Coleman Refief Bear.

I love the way her subjects and totems interact.

Sleepy Bear

Nicole Iff is a local artist that we have taken on at About Canada

We have taken on a range of Nichole’s prints, the originals are oil paintings.

I particularly like “Sleepy Bear”

It reminds me that it won’t be long until the bears around Banff start to wake up.

We are family.

February 17th, 2012 No comments

This weekend it is Family Day, here in Alberta.

So I thought I would show the neat poster from Cori Ross

Let me know if you like it.

Family Day is observed in Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan on the third Monday of February. It’s a holiday to celebrate the importance of families and family life to people and their communities. (Manitoba actually officially celebrates Louis Riel Day, but many people call it Family Day.)

It is trade show time. The time that we go and meet new artists and find neat new things to bring in for you at About Canada.

However that means we have to find space to put things. We are solving this with a Blow-Out sale, starting this weekend.

We only have a fraction of our products online, so far, but I have shown 6 sale items below. If you click on the Blow-Out Sale link then you can look through a whole range. (You can get the sale discounts online).

Jasyn Lucas Aurora Borealis paintings

February 3rd, 2012 No comments

Jasyn Lucas is an artist that came to us last year. He uses acrylics in his lovely depictions of the Aurora Borealis.

We just received a delivery of new pieces from Jasyn and, as usual, I love them.

I think that if I had to choose my favourite is the one titled “From Here”

Are you Pinteresting?

January 27th, 2012 No comments

I came across Pinterest recently and have become a bit addicted. Its a sort of social digital scrapbook, thats growing like crazy, if you haven’t heard of it.

It is simple in that images you like, across the web, you “pin” and others can like, comment or repin to their own interest boards. It’s quite compulsive!

Anyway I have become so taken with it that I have added a pin button to each product page. Feel free to pin your favourite products to your boards.

If you are on Pinterest, you can Follow Me on Pinterest.

We have just refurbished the window at About Canada.

We were trying to create a brighter more spacious display area.
I took some video and photos:

I couldn’t film for long, it was -36!
